Emergency Dental Care When You Need It Most
Dental emergencies call for more than routine scheduling. They call for immediate, decisive care. Sudden pain, an infection, a fractured tooth, or a dislodged tooth can escalate quickly when left unaddressed, risking further complications, damage, or the loss of a tooth altogether. That’s why the Sama clinical team and Dr. Randhawa prioritize same-day emergency appointments whenever available, combining thorough diagnostics with swift, precise treatment to relieve pain, resolve infection, and preserve your natural teeth wherever possible.
No two emergencies are alike, and neither are our treatment plans. From the moment you arrive, our team takes the time to understand what you’re experiencing, evaluate the full picture with care and precision, and design a course of treatment tailored not only to resolve the issue at hand, but to safeguard your long-term comfort and oral health.
You should never have to face a dental emergency alone. Whether you’ve trusted Sama for years or are stepping into our studio for the first time, our team is ready to welcome you with the same attentiveness, urgency, and quiet reassurance we bring to every visit. If you’re experiencing a dental emergency, call us immediately at (212) 575-7740; the sooner we hear from you, the sooner we can restore your comfort and protect your smile.

Emergency Dentistry FAQs
What Is Considered a Dental Emergency?
What qualifies as a dental emergency?
A dental emergency is any situation involving severe pain, infection, trauma, or injury that requires prompt attention to prevent further damage. This includes dental pain, a knocked-out or fractured tooth, a lost filling or crown, an abscess, uncontrolled bleeding, or swelling of the face or gums. If you’re unsure whether your situation qualifies, we encourage you to call. We’re happy to help you determine the best next step.
How do I know if my toothache is an emergency?
Not every toothache requires immediate treatment, but persistent or severe pain can signal infection, nerve damage, or another serious dental problem. If your pain is keeping you awake, worsening, or accompanied by swelling or fever, you should contact our office right away.
What dental problems should never wait until my next appointment?
Is a chipped or cracked tooth considered an emergency?
Getting Emergency Dental Care
Can you see me the same day?
Whenever possible, yes. Sama prioritizes same-day emergency appointments so patients experiencing pain or trauma can be seen and treated as quickly as possible. Call as soon as symptoms arise, and our team will do everything we can to get you in promptly.
Will you treat new patients with dental emergencies?
Absolutely. You don’t need to be an existing patient to receive emergency care at Sama. Whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth, our team is prepared to provide prompt, compassionate treatment when you need it most.
Do I need an appointment for emergency dental care?
We recommend calling before coming to the office whenever possible. This allows our team to prepare for your arrival and schedule you as quickly as possible while providing instructions if immediate care is needed.
What can I do while waiting for my appointment?
For pain, an over-the-counter pain reliever can help manage discomfort in the meantime. Avoid chewing near the affected area, and call our office right away so we can advise you on next steps and get you in as soon as possible. If you’re experiencing any breathing or airway issues, please seek immediate care at your local emergency room.
What should I expect during an emergency dental visit?
Your visit begins with an examination and any necessary digital X-rays to identify the source of the problem. Dr. Randhawa will explain your diagnosis, discuss treatment options, relieve your pain whenever possible, and recommend next steps to restore your oral health.
Dental Emergencies at Home
What should I do if my tooth gets knocked out?
Time is critical. Handle the tooth by the crown, not the root, and gently rinse it if it’s dirty—without scrubbing. If possible, try to place it back in its socket; if not, keep it moist in milk or saliva. Call our office immediately, as a tooth has the best chance of being saved if treated within the first hour.
What if I have severe tooth pain?
Severe or persistent tooth pain is often a sign of an underlying issue, such as infection or nerve damage, that needs prompt diagnosis. Don’t wait for it to resolve on its own; call us so we can evaluate the cause and provide relief as quickly as possible.
What if my crown or filling falls out?
While not always painful, a lost crown or filling leaves the tooth exposed and vulnerable to infection, decay, and further damage. In the meantime, keep the area clean, avoid chewing on that side, and call us to schedule a repair before complications develop.
What should I do if I break a tooth?
Rinse your mouth with warm water, save any broken pieces if possible, and avoid chewing on the affected side. If there’s swelling, apply a cold compress to the outside of your face and contact our office promptly.
Can I manage my dental pain until I can be seen?
Over-the-counter pain relievers, a cold compress, and avoiding very hot, cold, or hard foods may help reduce discomfort temporarily. However, these measures only relieve symptoms and should not replace professional treatment.
Dental Infections and Serious Concerns
Can a dental abscess become serious?
Can facial swelling from a tooth infection be dangerous?
Yes. Swelling can indicate a serious infection. If swelling spreads rapidly, affects your ability to breathe or swallow, or is accompanied by fever, seek immediate medical attention before contacting a dentist.
Should I go to the emergency room or an emergency dentist?
For most dental emergencies, including knocked-out teeth, severe pain, or infection, an emergency dentist is best equipped to provide the specific care you need. The emergency room should be reserved for situations involving significant facial trauma, uncontrolled bleeding, or swelling that affects your ability to breathe or swallow. When in doubt, call our office, and we’ll help guide you.
Can waiting too long make my dental emergency worse?
In many cases, yes. Delaying treatment can allow infections to spread, increase pain, complicate repairs, and reduce the chances of saving a damaged or knocked-out tooth.
Cost, Insurance & Follow-Up Care
How much does an emergency dental visit cost?
Does dental insurance cover emergency treatment?
Will my emergency be treated during the first visit?
Whenever possible, we aim to relieve pain and address the immediate problem during your first appointment. Depending on your condition, additional treatment, such as a crown, root canal, or permanent restoration, may be scheduled at a follow-up visit.
How can I reduce my risk of future dental emergencies?
Routine dental exams, preventive care, wearing a custom mouthguard during sports, avoiding chewing hard objects like ice, and treating small dental problems before they worsen can significantly reduce your risk of future emergencies.

What our clients say
When was the last time you heard someone brag about their dentist? Well buckle up – I have a lot to say.
SAMA Oral Health is truly the best dental experience I’ve ever had. Their beautiful & peaceful NYC studio (honestly, a spa) is just the beginning.
As someone passionate about wellness, I love how Dr. Jaskaren and her team put oral wellness first, while using the most advanced tools (like the GBT cleaning machine, which left my teeth feeling insanely clean).
Everyone from Dani at the front to Brianna (the hygienist — ask her about her most recent travels!), to Kayla and Merssy, is kind, professional, and makes you feel totally at ease. It’s rare to find a dental office that feels this chic, relaxing, and high-tech at the same time. I highly recommend SAMA!
Truly appreciate Dr. Randhawa and the entire SAMA health team for quickly getting me for a dental emergency. Everyone there was incredibly concerned for me with my accident, made sure I was taken care, and helped with recommendations for pain gel along with mouth wash to ensure I am as comfortable as possible during the healing the process. I would highly recommend the office as the staff is phenomenal and truly cares for patient wellbeing!
SAMA is the nicest dentist office I have ever been to. It is clean, beautiful, and has very high tech equipment to optimize your dental care. I’ve been going to Dr. Randhawa for years and my oral health has never been better. Her, the hygienists, and rest of the staff are sweet, caring, and make the whole experience as painful as seamless as possible. I’m very grateful for the time, work, and support that the whole team has given me throughout the years.
Literally the best dental experience I’ve ever had. Dr. Randhawa and her team was so knowledgeable and made me feel right at ease. Also, the office is STUNNING!
One of the things I appreciate most about SAMA is how they prioritize the entire patient experience, not just dental care. From the moment you walk in, you can tell they’ve thought through every detail to make the experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible. The office is beautiful and calming, the technology is top-tier, and the team goes out of their way to make you feel cared for. It’s clear that their goal isn’t just great dentistry, but a truly positive and personalized experience. I can’t recommend them enough!
